Hurricane
Wilma
Hurricane Wilma
hit us in October, 2005. It started on thursday, the 20th, and
it stopped on Sunday, the 23rd. Wilma was a massive, slow moving
catagory 4 storm that kept us in the house for 60 hours straight,
except for the few minutes we went outside during the eye of the
storm. It was the storm that wouldn't end.
Here's a few of
the things we endured...
-60 hours inside
the house
-around 30 hours
of sustained hurricane force or greater winds, the other 30 hours
the it was still too dangerous to be outside.
-15 days without
power (some had it sooner, some got it later. The gallery got
power back after 22 days)
-26 days of dry
law (no alcohol sold)
-22 days (and
counting) without phone in my home. The gallery never lost phone
service.
-22 days (and
counting) of cleanup. The entire house had to be cleaned. Floors,
shelves, personal belongings, and even the cielings were all covered
with wind driven dirt and water

The following
photos are of my yard and street when we finally went outside
on Sunday

car

Both palapas were
damaged. The one in back, ruined. The other one, still standing
with 3 of it's 4 posts broken. Still trying to see if I can salvage
it.
What Emily didn't
take, Wilma did.

Well, with that
said, let me say that everyone has worked real hard to get Cozumel
back on it's feet. We will be recieving our first cruise ship
on the 14th of November. I will be re-opening Galería Azul
that day. Fortunately, the gallery recieved no damages.
The reefs did
substain damages, some more that others. The shallow reefs took
it the hardest.
I have seen the
other side of the island, and it's sad to see it like that. Huge
3 foot diameter rocks on the other side of the road, tossed by
the waves. But, it isn't the first time that the island has been
hit like this, and I'm sure in time it'll be as beautiful as ever.
The island will bounce back.
What are you waiting
for...come on down!
